Srinagar Police has taken strong legal action against the deliberate circulation of false and misleading content by certain news channels and media outlets, which authorities believe is intended to incite unrest and disturb public order.
According to credible sources, these media organizations have been systematically posting fabricated narratives and distorted facts across electronic and social media platforms. The misleading content, lacking verification, poses a serious risk of provoking public disaffection and disharmony, potentially leading to actions that threaten national peace, security, and integrity. In response, Srinagar Police has registered FIR No. 17/2025 at Police Station Shergarhi under sections 197(1)(d), 353(1)(b), and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is currently underway.
Urging restraint and responsibility, Srinagar Police appealed to citizens, media organizations, and social media users to avoid sharing unverified or sensitive content. “We encourage everyone to verify facts before posting or forwarding information that could potentially disrupt communal harmony and public order,” a police spokesperson said.
