Jammu city on Wednesday witnessed an unusually cold day, recording a maximum temperature of 7.4 degrees Celsius, making it colder than several popular hill stations in Kashmir, including Gulmarg.
According to data shared by Kashmir Weather as per news agency, the temperature was 10.1 degrees below the normal average of 17.5 degrees Celsius for this time of the year, indicating an intense cold wave affecting the winter capital.
Weather records show that 7.4°C is the fourth lowest maximum temperature ever recorded in Jammu’s history. The lowest maximum temperature was recorded at 5.0°C in 1986, followed by 6.7°C in 2013 and 7.1°C in 2011. The same temperature of 7.4°C was also recorded in 2016.
In comparison, other parts of Kashmir recorded higher day temperatures, with Srinagar at 13.3°C, Pahalgam at 10.6°C, and Gulmarg at 8.2°C.
Meteorological experts attributed the unusual cold conditions to persistent cloud cover and cold winds, which significantly suppressed daytime temperatures in the region.
The sharp drop in temperature has intensified cold wave conditions in Jammu, affecting daily life, while authorities continue to keep a close watch on the weather situation. (KNC)
