Home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said the government was ready to discuss all issues in Parliament, including the students' protests over the NEET issue, and urged the Opposition to allow the House to function.
Speaking to reporters in the Parliament House complex, Shah said he was ready to answer questions and respond to the debate, while accusing the Opposition of disrupting proceedings.
"We are ready to discuss all the issues in Parliament, including students' protests; let the House function," the home minister said.
"If Opposition gives it in writing to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla by 2 pm today, we can start a discussion at 3 pm today until 3 pm tomorrow," Shah said.
"If the discussion starts at 3 pm today, I will give a reply tomorrow at 3 pm," the Home minister added.
Shah said Parliamentary Affairs minister Kiren Rijiju had already made the government's position clear on the issue.
"As far as the issue of discussion is concerned, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has made it very clear that the government is ready for a discussion on all aspects of the students’ protests related to the NEET issue."
"The Opposition had initially demanded that time be allotted for a discussion and that the government should agree to it."
"I have also made it clear from my side that I am ready to answer any questions in Parliament. But they simply do not want the discussion to take place.

Shah also defended his regular presence in Parliament and said disruptions had prevented proceedings from functioning.
"Words like 'missing' and 'fugitives' are terms that have only recently begun to be heard in India’s public and parliamentary discourse. Ever since the Parliament session began, I have been coming regularly and sitting in my chamber. But the Opposition is not allowing Parliament to function in either House. So, what is the point of anyone going inside when the proceedings are not being allowed to run?"
He further said the government was prepared for a broader discussion and had nothing to hide.
"I will remain present in the House, listen to everyone and answer every question. The government has nothing to hide. I am also ready to discuss why they do not want a discussion. The BJP government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the NDA government under his leadership, is ready to discuss every issue. They should allow the Parliament to function."
Consult opposition for debate on NEET issue: Shah to LS speaker
Shah urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to consult the Opposition for a debate on students' protests over the NEET paper-leak issue.
In a letter to the speaker, Shah said dialogue and discussions are the only ways to find solutions in a democracy and he has full faith in democracy and democratic institutions.
"I want to request you to kindly consult the opposition. With everyone's consent, allocate as much time needed for the debate. I will sit through the entire discussion and respond to all questions from the opposition during the debate," the Home minister said in the letter.
He said the debate should facilitate the views of the Opposition and treasury benches on the important issue of students' protests. "Dialogue and discussions are only ways to find solutions in a democracy and I have full faith in democracy and democratic institutions," Shah said.
