National Conference Additional General Secretary and former Minister  Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today hailed Chief Minister Jenab Omar Abdullah for his sagacious and forward-looking approach towards the establishment of aNational Law University (NLU) in Jammu as well as in Kashmir, saying the initiative reflects the party’s enduring commitment to addressing the urges and aspirations of the people of Jammu alongside those of Kashmir.
While interacting with common people at Ward No. 60 Gujjar Mohalla Paloura in Jammu North Assembly Constituency today, Sadhotra said the Chief Minister’s assurance to a delegation of law students from the University of Jammu, who called on him seeking an NLU for Jammu, has rekindled hope among the youth and academic community. This sensitive and balanced response once again demonstrates that the National Conference believes in inclusive governance, where no region or sub-region is left behind, he said.
He said that the Chief Minister considering the issue with sincerity of purpose and hoped that the urges and aspirations of the Jammu youth will be fulfilled. Such a considered approach underscores seriousness of intent and institutional responsibility, he said, expressing optimism that the proposal would culminate in a positive decision.
Highlighting the party’s track record,  Sadhotra said the National Conference has, over decades, taken concrete steps to ensure equitable development across Jammu and Kashmir. He recalled that during his previous tenure as Chief Minister, Jenab Omar Abdullah played a pivotal role in the establishment of Central Universities in both Jammu/Kashmir, thereby strengthening higher education infrastructure in a balanced manner.
He said that the National Conference has consistently acted to bridge regional aspirations through policy initiatives and administrative decisions. From infrastructure expansion to educational outreach, the National Conference has ensured that Jammu’s voice is heard and its legitimate demands are met with sincerity and action, he said.
Referring to the revival of the Durbar Move following the formation of the NC-led government, Mr Sadhotra described it as a pragmatic practical approach towards maintaining regional equilibrium and fostering a sense of shared governance. Such measures have historically contributed to confidence-building between regions and reinforced the idea of unity in diversity within Jammu and Kashmir, he added.
Sadhotra said the demand for an NLU in Jammu is both justified and timely, given the growing number of law aspirants and the need for world-class legal education institutions in the region. He asserted that establishing such an institution would enhance academic opportunities and contribute to the socio-economic development of Jammu.
Reiterating the party’s commitment, he said the National Conference under the leadership of Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah will continue to pursue policies that uphold fairness, inclusivity and balanced regional development. The aspirations of the people of Jammu have always found resonance in the National Conference’s agenda, and this instance is yet another reaffirmation of that unwavering commitment, he added.
