Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness unsettled weather conditions over the next three days, with the Meteorological Centre forecasting light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds at several places across the Union Territory till October 15.
Light snowfall is also expected over higher reaches, including mountainous areas and important mountain passes, prompting the Meteorological Department to advise farmers, travellers and the general public to remain cautious.
According to the MeT forecast, generally cloudy weather with light rain at isolated places is likely on October 13, while higher-altitude areas may receive light snowfall.
The weather is expected to improve thereafter, with generally dry conditions and a brief spell of light rain at isolated places likely on October 16. Dry weather is forecast to prevail across J&K from October 17 to 24.
In view of the expected rainfall and gusty winds, the MeT Department has issued an advisory for farmers, urging them to ensure the safe storage of harvested apples, paddy and other crops during October 13–15 to minimise possible losses.
The department has also cautioned that light snowfall may affect important mountain passes and roads during the forecast period. Travellers, transporters and the general public have been advised to plan their journeys carefully and follow the latest traffic advisories.
People travelling through higher reaches and mountainous routes have been urged to remain alert and take necessary precautions in view of the changing weather conditions.
The department has advised the public to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and official advisories until conditions improve.
