A low-intensity blast near an army cantonment boundary wall in Amritsar’s Khasa area has raised security concerns, with Punjab Police suspecting a possible link to Pakistan’s intelligence agency.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the explosion, which occurred on Tuesday night, caused no injuries but is being treated seriously. He indicated that the incident could be part of a broader design by Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), possibly timed with the anniversary of Operation Sindoor.
“We believe this could be an attempt by Pakistan’s ISI to create disturbances in Punjab. The state is effectively countering proxy threats on behalf of the nation,” the DGP said.
The Amritsar blast was one of two explosions reported in Punjab on Tuesday night. Earlier, a similar incident occurred near the headquarters of the Border Security Force’s Punjab Frontier in Jalandhar around 8 pm, followed by the second blast in Amritsar around 11 pm. Both incidents triggered panic and drew strong political reactions, with opposition leaders terming them attempts to destabilise the region.
Security agencies have launched a coordinated investigation into both incidents. The DGP said meetings were held with army officials and senior Punjab Police officers to review the situation and strengthen security measures.
Forensic teams, bomb disposal squads from Punjab Police and the Border Security Force, along with other experts, have examined the blast site and collected samples for analysis. Authorities are awaiting forensic reports to determine the exact nature of the explosive device used.
An FIR has been registered, and multiple teams are working using technical intelligence, human sources, and scientific methods to identify those responsible. Police officials have assured that the perpetrators will be tracked down and arrested.
According to Amritsar (Rural) SSP Suhail Mir Qasim, the explosion was reported around 11 pm after a loud sound was heard in the Khasa area. Preliminary findings suggest that an explosive device may have been thrown towards the boundary wall, causing minor structural damage, including a fallen tin sheet.
Authorities remain on high alert as investigations continue.
