The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been opened for one-way traffic from Jammu to Srinagar for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs). Traffic officials on Thursday stated that “due to the wet bed of the Tharad stretch of the highway, the movement of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) cannot be permitted until the bed dries up.”
An official said, “LMV traffic was allowed on a trial basis, but due to the slippery surface, several vehicles got stuck and had to be pushed through with JCBs and loaders throughout the day. Owing to the wet bed of this stretch, HMV movement cannot be permitted until it dries up.”
He added that, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, only one-way traffic shall be permitted for LMVs from Jammu towards Srinagar on NH-44. These vehicles will be allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) between 0600 hrs and 1600 hrs.
Mughal Road
Mughal Road is open for passenger LMVs from Srinagar towards Jammu.
In a statement, the traffic officials said, “Subject to fair weather and good road condition, after getting green signal from Road maintenance agencies (GREF), LMVs passenger and private cars shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu via Poonch. These vehicles shall be allowed from Herpora (Shopian) between 0600 hrs to 1700 hrs as per advisory issued by District Magistrate Poonch.”
However, they added that “HMVs (Fruit laden trucks six tyres only) shall be allowed from Shopian towards Poonch and no HMV will be allowed from Herpora Naka towards Poonch after 1000 hrs.”
Moreover, they said no Kashmir bound HMV shall be permitted from Jammu towards Mughal Road. TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the traffic advisory and cut off timings.
Kishtwar- Sinthan- Anantnag NH-244
The officials said only LMVs shall be allowed from both sides viz from Anantnag towards Kishtwar and vice- versa on Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road subject to fair weather and good road condition and green signal from NHIDCL.
These vehicles shall be allowed from PP Parana towards Anantnag from 0800 hrs to 1600 hrs and from PP Daksum towards Kishtwar from 0900 hrs. to 1500 hrs. as per order issued by SDM Chhatroo.
SSG ROAD
If fair weather prevails, traffic movement will be allowed on regulated manner on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road, the officials said.
they said LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar at 0500 hrs. to 1000 hrs. Similarly, LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil at 1130 hrs to 1730 hrs . No vehicle shall be allowed after cut-off timing.
“SFs Convoy, plying from Srinagar to Kargil and vice versa shall plan their movement in such a manner so that Civil Traffic (both UP and DOWN) don’t get disturbed.” they said
