In a major security preparedness exercise ahead of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, personnel of the National Security Guard (NSG), Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Monday carried out a comprehensive mock drill at the Amarnath Yatra base camp in Jammu.
The joint exercise involved combing and area-clearing operations aimed at assessing the readiness of security forces to respond effectively to any potential threat during the pilgrimage. The drill was conducted under a coordinated security framework involving multiple agencies responsible for ensuring the safety of pilgrims.
Officials said the mock exercise focused on strengthening operational coordination, testing emergency response mechanisms, and reviewing security arrangements at key locations associated with the pilgrimage. Security personnel carried out systematic searches of the camp premises and surrounding areas as part of the preparedness measures.
The annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is scheduled to commence on July 3, 2026, and will conclude on August 28, 2026. Thousands of devotees from across the country are expected to participate in the pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine situated in the Himalayas of South Kashmir.
Authorities have intensified security and logistical preparations ahead of the Yatra, with regular reviews and drills being conducted to ensure a peaceful, safe, and smooth pilgrimage season.
