Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee has strongly condemned the action of the administration to put all the senior leaders especially DCC Presidents of Kashmir region ahead of peaceful sit in dharnas  at all district Hqs today.

JKPCC Chief Tariq Hameed Karra said that as  part of Nationwide call of AICC, in connection with ongoing ‘MGNREGA Bachao Sangram’ besides the movement for the restoration of statehood' ‘Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq’,  peaceful sit in dharna at all  Districts was scheduled today, however the administration put all DCC Presidents & other prominent Congress leaders under house arrest in entire Kashmir valley and didn't allow them to reach to the respective venues.
They were not allowed to move out to reach to the venues of dharna in all districts of Kashmir region.
Even at PCC HQ Srinagar, only symbolic sit in dharna was allowed inside PCC HQ only.
Terming such actions as totally undemocratic, authoritarian and dictatorial, Mr. Karra said that not allowing a peaceful expressions over repeal of MGNREGA, as part of nation wide campaign of INC, is a reflection of the undeclared emergency, he said, while appreciating the restraint and peaceful approach of the Congress cadres in the situation. Karra said that such unwarranted actions against the peaceful, non-violent and symbolic protests makes democracy questionable, and shakes the faith of the people in it, particularly when democracy was restored after a gap of 10 years. On the contrary the government should have extended all the democratic and constitutional rights to the people, so that the essence and spirit & faith in democracy would have got strengthened.
Working President Shri Raman Bhalla and Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma also strongly condemned the undemocratic & dictatorial move of the administration and asked it to desist from such anti democratic actions against the non violent and peaceful democratic forces especially Congress party which fought & sacrificed for freedom and democracy in the country.
Such unwarranted actions burst the tall claims of democracy and normalcy  in the valley and signal undeclared emergency in Jammu and Kashmir especially in the valley, they added.
