After assuming charge as the 30th Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Kavinder Gupta arrived in Jammu today to a warm and enthusiastic welcome by hundreds of supporters gathered at the airport. The occasion marked his first visit to Jammu following his oath-taking ceremony at Raj Bhavan, Shimla on March 10, 2026.

Interacting with media persons, Governor Sh Kavinder Gupta expressed gratitude to President Smt. Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for entrusting him with this responsibility. "I thank the Honourable President and the Prime Minister for this opportunity. Their wishes and expectations are that every section of society is taken along and that work is done for the betterment of Himachal Pradesh," he said.

Outlining his key priorities, the Governor underscored his commitment to making Himachal Pradesh drug-free, emphasising that collective efforts by the government, civil society and communities are essential to combat substance abuse and protect the younger generation. He stated that initiatives for youth engagement, skill development and constructive participation in social and economic activities would remain central to his agenda.

Governor Gupta also highlighted Himachal Pradesh's immense potential in religious and adventure tourism, and stressed the need to promote organic farming, noting that the hill state's terrain offers unique conditions to emerge as a hub of sustainable agriculture. "Encouraging organic practices would protect the environment, enhance farmers' income and strengthen rural livelihoods," he said.

Affirming his commitment to inclusive governance, the Governor said the position he holds does not belong to any political party, and that he would work with both the ruling and opposition parties for the State's overall development.

Responding to questions about Jammu and Kashmir nationals facing difficulties in Himachal Pradesh, Governor Gupta stressed the importance of nurturing the deep cultural, historical and civilisational bonds shared between the two regions. "Our language, culture and civilisation are similar. That mutual love and affection must be maintained," he said.

The Governor reaffirmed that youth empowerment, quality higher education, and Himachal Pradesh's contribution to the national goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047 would remain his abiding priorities.
