Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Wednesday commended all J&K Police personnel for working tirelessly on the ground to safeguard lives of people amid the heavy rains.

DGP Prabhat, according to the news agency toured several flood-hit areas of Jammu district to review rescue and relief operations amid rising water levels in rivers Tawi, Chenab and adjoining nallahs following continuous rainfall. He was accompanied by DIG JSK Range Shiv Kumar, SSP Jammu and SP Rural.

The DGP visited Mangu Chak, Makwal, Miran Sahib, Domana and other vulnerable belts, meeting police officers, SDRF teams and jawans engaged in rescue work. He praised their efforts in evacuating people and providing timely help to affected families.

In Akhnoor, the DGP inspected Jio Pota Ghat, Steel Bridge and the Fort area before chairing a review meeting with senior police and BSF officers, including DIG BSF Varinder Dutta. He directed all agencies to work in close coordination to ensure public safety.

At Garkhal, the DGP personally oversaw the rescue of 47 civilians trapped in the Chenab. In a joint operation by J&K Police and BSF, all were safely rescued and airlifted from Fatu Kotli area.

He lauded the timely action of police officers and jawans, while also interacting with BSF personnel and appreciating their role in both border security and disaster response. MLA Akhnoor, Mohan Bhagat, thanked the police and BSF for saving precious lives.

Later, the DGP, along with DIG JSK Range, visited Gujjar Nagar, Hari Ki Pori, Gorakhnagar and Bagh-e-Bahu to assess the Tawi water level and directed field officers to remain on high alert for rescue and evacuation.
