The Special Crime Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir conducted house searches at five different locations in central Kashmir’s Srinagar and Budgam districts. The searches were carried out in connection with the investigation of a cheating case, officials said on Saturday.
In a statement, an official spokesperson of the Crime Branch Kashmir said, “The Special Crime Wing, Srinagar of Crime Branch Kashmir is carrying out House Searches at five different locations in District Srinagar and Budgam in connection with the investigation of a case registered at Police Station Special Crime Wing, Srinagar (Crime Branch Kashmir) pertaining to commission of cheating”He said a case had been registered in pursuance of a complaint in which it had been alleged that the complainant has been cheated on the pretext of sale of land.

He further stated that the complainant had been given land documents which he/she believed to be genuine and, as a result, paid lakhs of rupees. However, it later surfaced that the land did not belong to the sellers, a fact that was also substantiated during the enquiry.
“House Searches are underway and further investigation is in progress.” the statement added.
