Additional District Development Commissioner Jammu Sher Singh chaired a meeting today at the Mini Conference Hall, DC Office to discuss the implementation of Supreme Court directions regarding the prevention of student suicides in higher educational institutions.
Chief Planning Officer Jammu Ajaypal Singh alongside other officers and representatives from key educational, medical, social welfare and allied departments attended the meeting.
The meeting deliberated on the role and responsibilities of higher education institutions and line departments in ensuring student well-being.
Discussions focused on mental health support systems, early identification of stress indicators, counselling mechanisms and inter-institutional coordination.
Emphasis was placed on adopting preventive, supportive and responsive measures aligned with the framework suggested by the National Task Force constituted by the Supreme Court.
The Chair stressed the need for a coordinated institutional approach to strengthen counselling services, awareness programmes and referral mechanisms, particularly in colleges, universities and hostels. Officials were directed to ensure strict adherence to guidelines, enhance inter-departmental coordination and submit actionable inputs for the formulation of a district-level action plan.
The meeting concluded with directions to all stakeholders to work proactively toward creating a safe, supportive and student-friendly academic environment across District Jammu.
