The newly appointed Principal Director General (PrDG) of Press Information Bureau (PIB) Shri K. S. Dhatwalia (IIS:84) called on the Union Minister of State (I/C) for Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space Dr Jitendra Singh, here today. Shri Dhatwalia has taken over as PrDG PIB yesterday. He also holds the additional charge of Director General (DG) Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC).
During the meeting, the Minister discussed various aspects of Government communication and suggested ways to improve them. He said that the information related to the Government schemes and initiatives should reach the last man in the row. The new means of information such as social media should also be used more effectively, the Minister added. Dr Singh said that the Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given emphasis on use of technology in good governance.
The DG, IIMC briefed the Minister about the progress being made on the construction of IIMC campus in Jammu. Shri Dhatwalia said that more courses will be started from regional campuses including Jammu campus. He further said that IIMC is planning to introduce courses in different languages in Jammu. The DG, IIMC said that the road connecting the IIMC campus with the main road needs to be upgraded on priority, so that the campus is easily accessible. The foundation stone of the IIMC Jammu was laid by the Prime Minister earlier this year. Dr Jitendra Singh said that the opening of new campus of Jammu IIMC will offer new opportunities to youth and will help them in taking up various programs in journalism.
