The National Investigation Agency on Friday conducted house searches in multiple locations, including the Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, in connection with a drone delivery case.

According to the NIA, no arrests have been made in this case so far. In the past nine months, security forces have observed the illegal entry of 191 drones into Indian territory from neighboring Pakistan, raising serious concerns for the country’s internal security.

The central government recently shared the input of the security forces deployed on the India-Pakistan border to perpetuate such illegal attempts by the Pakistani side. In the early hours of today, Border Security Force (BSF) troops shot down a drone that entered India in the Gurdaspur sector of Punjab from the Pakistani side at the international border.
It is pertinent to mention that in the past nine months, army personnel have observed 191 drones, of which 171 entered Indian territory through the India-Pakistan border along the Punjab sector, while 20 were seen in the Jammu sector, a document that is accessible to the DNA.

According to the document, the “Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) observation in the Indo-Pak border was observed in the border of Punjab and Jammu from January 1, 2022 to September 30, 2022”. The document further revealed that most of these drones or UAVs managed to flee, while a total of seven were shot down by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, which have been deployed along the India-Pakistan border to carry out such illegal activities. are orchestrated by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence.

BSF officials toldthat the drones are being used by Pakistan to transport weapons, explosives and narcotics across the international border in Jammu and Punjab from Pakistan. The increased drone activity across the border was recently brought to the attention of Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah during the security review meeting in Srinagar with the presence of top security and intelligence chiefs.

While BSF, i.e. the international border with Pakistan in the Jammu sector, believes it has been able to repel drones carrying weapons, ammunition and explosives from Pakistan, state police and intelligence agencies disagree.

The security forces have seized several AK-series assault rifles, pistols, MP4 carbines, carbine magazines, high-explosive grenades and narcotics transported from Pakistan to Indian territory by the drones shot down so far. According to security forces, BSF intelligence and police officials from Jammu and Kashmir, the drones are also being used to drop packages of Afghan heroin to fund terror operations in the Valley and Punjab.
The group behind the transport of weapons, explosives and drugs is said to be Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba and other terror groups that have camps across the international border and are supported by ISI.
The Interior Ministry is said to have instructed the concerned agencies to find a solution to stop drone activities and meanwhile, security agencies and law enforcement are being asked to keep a special eye on such movements.
