Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has taken a potshot at Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik, saying thathe acts like a BJP leader and should be made party president for J&K.
"Jammu and Kashmir Governor should be made the president of the state BJP unit. His comments and statements are like those of BJP leaders. The way he talks doesn't uphold the integrity of the constitutional office of Governor," said Chowdhury. Chowdhury made the remarks against the backdrop of restrictions in Kashmir region owning to revocation of Article 370 that provided special status to the state and the unsuccessful attempt of a delegation of opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi to visitthe region.
"Schools and colleges are closed in Jammu and Kashmir.People are not allowed to speak. Those who want to visit there are not beingallowed to go to Jammu and Kashmir," Ranjan said.
On Saturday, Rahul Gandhi along with several others like Ghulam Nabi Azad Congress, Anand Sharma, Sitaram Yechury, Sharad Yadav, ManojJha, Majeed Memon, Tiruchi Shiva, and D Raja tried to visit Kashmir to take stock of the situation, however they were stopped at Srinagar airport by the authorities and were sent back to Delhi.
Opposition leaders alleged that they were detained at the airport in Srinagar in an 'unconstitutional' and 'undemocratic' manner.
CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Saturday had said they have written to District Magistrate of Budgam stating that their detention at Srinagar airport was "undemocratic and unconstitutional."
