To woo tourism and attract more tourists, stage has been setfor introducing base jumping from World’s highest rail bridge coming up inhilly Reasi besides Doda and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

“To give push to adventure tourism, the Jammu TourismDepartment is going to conduct trials of Base Jumping in a bid to introduce thesame from World’s highest rail bridge in Reasi,” official sources here said.

“We have identified three locations for base jumping andhave written to the respective District Development Commissioners and CEOs forfurther action and clearance,” the sources said, adding that Atal Setu Bridgein Basholi (Kathua), Ganpat Bridge on River Chenab in Doda and World’s highestrail bridge Bakkal in Reasi are among those identified.

“Once we get the clearance from respective quarters, thetrials will begin,” sources added Basholi’s Atal Setu bridge on Ranjit SagarLake has height of 348 feet (106 metre), Doda’s Ganpat bridge has a height of278 feet (86 metre) and Bakkal Rail bridge has height of 1178 feet (359 metre).

“We have initiated the process of exploring the potential ofbase jumping on Atal Setu, Ganpat bridge and Bakkal Rail bridge,” an officialof Directorate of Tourism, Jammu here said.

They added that trials will begin soon after clearance fromthe concerned authorities.

BASE jumping, also sometimes written as B.A.S.E. jumping, isparachuting from a fixed structure like fixed objects from which one can jumpcomprising building, antenna, span, and earth (cliff).
