People’s Democratic Party today strongly objected over the inclusion of non-local voters in the electoral rolls in Jammu and Kashmir.

This objection was raised by S. Amreek Singh Reen, PDP’s General Secretary while participating in the All Party Meeting convened by the Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu and Kashmir here today. Amreek Singh Reen was accompanied by Harmesh Singh Slathia, Additional General Secretary; Rajinder Singh Manhas State Secretary and Parvez Waffa Media Coordinator.

Reen said that the electoral demographic change being forced by the BJP through inclusion of imported voters in the J and K electoral rolls. He said the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir are being trampled. He said the ruling government at the centre has started the process of taking away the peoples' rights and diluting public will here on August 5, 2019 and now they have added a new chapter to it by saying they will add non-local voters. They are trying hard to change the identity, democratic rights, and electoral demography of the people of Jammu & Kashmir, but it is not acceptable to the people of Jammu & Kashmir under any circumstances, Reen said, adding that PDP will never tolerate such type of hypocrisy in the Jammu and Kashmir.

The senior PDP leader also apprised the Chief Electoral Officer about the problems being faced by young voters while enrolling themselves in the electoral roll. He demanded that the registration camps for new voters should be organized in far off and inaccessible areas so that none left behind in participating in the democratic process.

Reen also sought that the political parties should also be permitted to have booth level representatives in order to felicitate and scrutinize the process of registration.
